Take 5: Looking at Display Cases with Blake Miremont of Architectural Plastics, Inc.

Architectural Plastics, Inc.’s Creative Director and CEO, Blake Miremont, met for an interview with Tru Vue Museum & Conservatior, Yadin Larachette, on the Museum Community YouTube channel. Its “Take 5” series looks at applications and uses of acrylic in framing and display cases. 

Blake discussed the various products that Architectural Plastics manufactures including medical instruments, product displays, furniture, museum art installations, and many other pieces made of acrylic. They work with most major museums in the San Francisco area and several ones across the country as well as corporate clients, high-end framers, and private clients.

Yadin asked about their work at the San Francisco International Airport with their extensive art collection. Blake noted the safety considerations taken when having display pieces in high traffic, public areas. Architectural Plastics made sure to include abrasion resistance on their work to avoid any injury when touching or leaning on the artwork and provided security screws as a security method to deter theft.

At the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art as well as other museums, Blake and his team built display vitrines including bases and pedestals to suit the needs of the client. They typically use white and black acrylic with a glossy or matte finish because it doesn’t off-gas as a paint finish does.

Yadin stated how great it was that Blake kept his employees working through the pandemic by transitioning his output to protective face shields. This was a great way to keep his staff employed while being part of the solution with COVID-19.
