Portland Skin Care Studio Owner Creates Patent-Pending Face Barrier

When COVID-19 hit in 2020, many businesses had to close to help stop the spread of the virus. Kathleen Boniface, a Portland skincare studio owner who has been an aesthetician for over 20 years, felt the effects of the shutdowns when she closed her shop in early March. She knew there had to be a way to use personal protective equipment in her business and her goal was to provide a safe method of working with clients without the interference of a mask.

Kathleen looked to create some kind of a barrier between her guests and the aesthetician and after researching and exploring options, she reached out to Architectural Plastics for help.

New Innovative Design

Architectural Plastics, Inc. Creative Director and CEO, Blake Miremont, and his team partnered with Kathleen to create the “Boniface Aerosol Barrier.” This patent-pending design acts as a protective see-through, acrylic barrier shaped in a triangular pyramid. It allows aestheticians better access to their patients while still providing protection to both.

Kathleen worked with Architectural Plastics for several months, testing different prototypes and came up with its final product. It fits together perfectly while being easy to take apart for cleaning. Kathleen hopes her design will become a new standard in the industry and has been endorsed by the Esthetics Council and Oncology Spa Solutions. Read the original media release here.
